    Description

RaceSense Fastmate right angled temperature probe. An adjustable, accurate temperature probe or pyrometer, makes it much easier to take temperature readings on closed wheel vehicles. It features an anodised, machined aluminium body, ensuring this probe is both rugged and durable. The probe length adjuster is made from a low thermal mass engineered material, which avoids in inadvertantly acting as a heat sink, affecting the readings.

The screw adjuster and locking nut ensures tyres can be probed at a consistent depth, which is vital to maintain consistantcy, as tyre temperatures will vary considerably with depth. A depth of between 3mm to 5mm is recommended. The probe can be adjusted up to 15mm which would actually puncture most tyres. To avoid punctures the needle should obviously not be inserted too deep and the probe should be inserted into the tyre blocks only and not the grooves/voids or sides, with extra care being taken with well worn tyres.

Special attention has been paid in ensuring the thermocouple is as quick a response rate as possible. RaceSense tested many probes from different manufacturers and found a huge variation in response times, as well as accuracy. After insertion it typically takes 2 seconds for the probe to reach 90% of the final temperature, 3 seconds for 95% and around 4 seconds for the temperature response to level out. The gauge even shows Up or Down arrows if the temperature is changing, these will disappear when it's stable.

It’s important to insert the probe tip perpendicular to the tyre face. If inserted at an angle this can cause damage or breakage to the probe tip which is not covered by the product guarantee. Avoid heat sources: Temperature accuracy will be affected if, for example, the gauge or probe are heated (or cooled). So, do not leave the gauge and probe near sources of heat or where large thermal gradients may be expected e.g. in direct sunlight, on top of engine, near heaters or fans etc.

Car setup, tyre pressures, track conditions and driving style will all affect the bulk tyre temperatures. It does not make sense to compare readings from different car or tyre types or different probe depths. Supplied in a protective case for transportation.
